Website visits from mobile phones have been increasing steadily over the past several years.
The websites we manage for our clients average 40%-70% in traffic coming from people using mobile devices (which include smart phones and tablets). Not surprisingly, once we optimize a website to be mobile-friendly, we typically see an immediate increase in click-through rates (CTR).
Google has been encouraging all website owners to make their websites ‘mobile-friendly’ for a long time. Recently Google announced that they will be using ‘mobile-friendly’ website as a ranking signal:
“Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.” [source]
