Website Design

It starts with a website that has both looks and brains.

A good website does 3 things well:

  1. It provides information
  2. It generates leads
  3. And it makes you money

By the way, if we haven’t met yet…

My name is Art Palvanov, I’m the principal designer at Click Tie.

I have been building websites for over 20 years.

I can’t tell you how many times I heard, “I wish we met a couple of years ago, before I wasted $10K on a website that does nothing for my business.”

Keep reading and you will be much better off…

A bad website design is not only wasted money, it’s also wasted opportunity cost.

I don’t want you to be in that spot. It hurts.

That’s why we do things differently.

We start by asking one important question:

How do you make money with your website?

Unfortunately, most web designers never answer this critical question. It’s not their fault. After all, they went to design school, not business school.

So, when they design your website, they focus on the wrong stuff, like the latest design trends and cool website widgets.

Instead, your website needs to focus on converting website visitors into leads and paying clients.

Just to be clear – “making money with your website” doesn’t mean that you have to ask customers to pay you on your website (although that’s the case if you have an ecommerce website).

Making money with your website means that your website directly contributes to your business revenue. And when that happens, your website becomes an investment that quickly pays for itself.

So, what makes a website successful?

For over a decade I have worked on hundreds of website design projects with entrepreneurs from different industries.

This experience allowed me to find patterns of what works and what doesn’t work when it comes to website design.

Some things on your website will be specific to your industry. But the #1 success factor is universal for all business websites.

Regardless of your business type, your website will be successful only with the realization that…

Building a successful website starts with understanding your customer’s behaviour.

I know it might sound weird.

But please stay with me on this one… you won’t regret it.

Look, at the start of the website creation process we need to do some “soul searching”.

We need to dig deeper into the buying behaviour of your customer.

Basically, we need to find out what gets your customers excited and what makes them afraid to buy from you.

You see, in your particular business there are common steps that your customers go through before they buy from you.

These steps often look like this:

  1. They realize they have a problem (Awareness)
  2. They start looking for solutions (Research)
  3. They compare options (Comparison)
  4. They are ready to buy (Purchase Decision)
  5. They take actions after they buy (Post-Purchase Behavior)

Generally, the more expensive your product or service, the more time each step takes.

Listen carefully…

I’ll let you in on a secret that most business owners don’t know about.

What you just read has EVERYTHING to do with website design.

You see, when you don’t understand how your customers buy, then you won’t be able to attract them with the right information at the right time.

And that brings us to the next question…

Most websites are designed only for people who are ready to buy. It sounds good, but totally wrong.

Generally, out of 100 people who visit your website, only 1 or 2 will be in the “buying” stage. That means that only a tiny number of your website visitors are ready to buy what you sell.

But what about the other 98% of your website visitors?

Well, the rest of the website visitors are “just looking”. They are still researching and comparing options. They are just not ready to buy from you now.

And you know what most websites do with these “just looking” visitors?

Think about it – over 98% of people are coming in and coming out of your website without ever getting in touch with you. Plus, you don’t have a way to follow up with them after they leave your website.

This means that if you are paying for advertising in order to get people to visit your website, then you are actually wasting 98% of your money.

But your website doesn’t have to be like that. There is a better way.

The answer is simple – give them what they are looking for… right now.

Since most of your website visitors are “researching” – they are looking for information to help them decide what to do next. (From “customer behaviour” perspective, they are looking to remove the “fear” of buying from you.)

At that moment, you have the opportunity to give them special information related to your field of expertise. Essentially, you have a chance to be perceived as an expert in your business.

It was proven that people trust those who they perceive as experts in their fields. So, when your website visitors begin to trust you, they are more likely to buy from you. (In other words, you remove fear by creating trust.)

So, how do you create trust on your company website? Get in touch to find out

Yes. The aesthetic design of your website is one of the biggest leverage points for your business. Good design makes you more money.

Why? Because a good design creates a feeling of credibility for your company. And when people perceive your company as credible, they are more likely to buy from you.

The right combination of colors and images create powerful feelings inside your prospects. And it helps your “company brand” look one-of-a-kind.

Above all, a good website design makes it easy for people to learn about your offer and make a purchasing decision.

Steve Jobs famously said that “most people think that design is how it looks, but when you look closer you realise that design is really how it works”.

We agree. That’s why we use design as a tool to help you grow the bottom line of your business. That’s how we measure if it works.

Question: What do most people have on them all day — inside, outside, at home, at work, in bed (… and even in the bathroom)?

Answer: Their smartphones.

You see, by now most of your customers use smartphones to check messages and find ‘stuff’ on the web.  This ‘stuff’ includes your products and services.

You might be surprised, but many business owners already see that their websites are being viewed more often by people on smartphones than by people on regular computers.

It’s no wonder that many call this phenomenon the “Mobile Revolution”.

As a result, Google now ranks the quality of your website based on how well it works on mobile devices.

And that’s where the word “responsive” comes in.

Essentially, “responsive web design” is a way to build your website so it works well on different kinds of devices that your customers use.

This means that you get one website and it can be easily viewed on phones, tablets, laptops, desktop computers and even modern TVs.

Listen – these days most consumers in Canada and US learned to get everything fast. “Instant gratification” is part of our culture.

So, when customers use their smartphones to find something, – they want to find it fast.

This gives you, the business owner, a great opportunity to cash in on the “instant gratification” factor. When they find you, you have a chance to connect with your customers anywhere they go.

And considering that 2 out of 3 people use smartphones (as of 2015) – its becomes clear that having a mobile-friendly website is now an indispensable asset for your company.

Thank you for asking the second most important question in web design.

As you know – there are millions of websites on the web. And in your particular market, there are likely hundreds or even thousands of competing websites.

How will people find your website among all this “competition”?

The answer is, – website marketing. When we build a website, it’s also important to promote it online.

But there are 100’s of ways of marketing your website online. Which one is best for your company?

We developed a website marketing approach that works best for business owners.

The approach has 2 steps:

1) We integrate website marketing into the actual web design process.

Before building your new website, we find the top “words” that people use to look for your type of products and services on Google. (As you might know, Google is the #1 search engine where most people look for stuff online.)

We make recommendations on how to use these “keywords” inside your website.

While building your website, we use special tools to setup website pages in a way that make it easier for Google to “see” your website.

2) We launch a marketing campaign.

The best way to do marketing for your company is to show your products and services to people who are already looking for you.

We call it Targeted Marketing.
